Terms of Service

Welcome to RoleKey. These Terms govern your use of the platform at rolekey.app and any subdomain (yourland.rolekey.app). By creating an account or using a RoleKey land, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

1. Beta service

RoleKey is currently in public beta. The service is provided as-is and as-available, without warranties of any kind. Features may change, break, or be removed. Data loss, though uncommon, is possible — keep your own copies of anything you care about.

During the beta the service is free. No payment is required, and therefore no refunds are owed if the service is unavailable or if a feature is discontinued.

2. Your account

• You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. RoleKey is an adults-only platform.
• One account per person. Multiple accounts operated by the same person are not allowed without prior permission.
• You are responsible for keeping your password secure and for everything that happens under your account.
• Provide accurate information when registering. Impersonating another person is not allowed.

3. How RoleKey works

RoleKey lets anyone create a land — an independent roleplay space with its own members, rules, characters, and content. When you create a land, you become its owner. When you join a land, you are a member and play under that land's rules.

Land owners configure their land's rules, modules, and staff. RoleKey provides the platform but does not participate in the day-to-day running of individual lands.

4. User-generated content

You keep ownership of the content you post on RoleKey (characters, stories, images, messages). By posting, you grant RoleKey a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, transmit, and display that content for the sole purpose of operating the service.

RoleKey does not pre-moderate user-generated content. We rely on land owners to moderate their own lands, and on users to report serious abuse. We reserve the right — but not the obligation — to remove content that violates these Terms or the law.

5. Land owners' responsibilities

If you run a land, you are responsible for the content of that land and for the conduct of its staff and members. This includes:

• Setting and enforcing your land's rules.
• Moderating chat, forum, and private-messaging content that breaks your rules or ours.
• Responding to reasonable requests from members to remove their personal content.
• Complying with applicable laws in the jurisdiction where your land's members live.

RoleKey may suspend or shut down a land whose owner fails these responsibilities.

6. Acceptable use

You may not use RoleKey to:

• Post illegal content, including child sexual abuse material, incitement to violence, or content that infringes someone else's rights.
• Harass, threaten, dox, or discriminate against other users.
• Distribute malware, phishing links, spam, or scams.
• Attempt to break into accounts, bypass RLS policies, scrape data, or reverse-engineer the platform in ways beyond what the law allows.
• Abuse the service (excessive requests, automated account creation, denial-of-service attempts).
• Commercialize another user's content without permission.

7. Adult content

RoleKey is an 18+ platform. Lands may contain adult or sexually explicit themes, provided that:

• the land is clearly marked as adult (18+) using the platform's adult-content flag;
• all participants are adults (18 or older);
• the content remains lawful in the jurisdictions where the land's members live.

The following are strictly prohibited everywhere on RoleKey, with no exception - including inside adult lands, and including purely fictional, drawn, or roleplayed contexts:

• any sexual content involving minors, whether real or fictional. This includes roleplay, text, images, or characters depicted, described, or implied to be under 18, regardless of any stated in-fiction age;
• any content that sexualizes, grooms, isolates, or otherwise endangers a real minor;
• sexual content depicting real, identifiable people without their consent, and any content presented as non-consensual real activity.

"It is only fiction" is not a defense for sexual content involving minor characters. Accounts and lands that violate this section are removed immediately and, where the law requires, reported to the competent authorities and to child-protection organizations (such as NCMEC).

8. Reporting violations

Use the Report button next to any chat message or character profile to flag content that breaks these Terms or your land's rules. Reports go to your land's staff first; serious violations (illegal content, severe abuse) can be escalated to RoleKey by the staff for platform-level action.

In addition to the land-level report flow above, a "Report illegal content" option is available on every message, profile, and land. Reports of illegal content - in particular child sexual abuse material - are sent directly to RoleKey's operators, bypassing land staff, and are handled with priority. RoleKey also scans uploaded images for known child sexual abuse material and will block, remove, log, and report such content as required by law.

9. In-game economy

The economy inside a land — currency, items, marketplaces, guild treasuries — is purely fictional. In-game currency has no real-world value, cannot be bought with real money, and cannot be cashed out. Trading in-game items for real money or other real-world consideration is not allowed.

10. Suspension and termination

RoleKey may suspend or terminate accounts, lands, or specific content at any time if we reasonably believe a violation of these Terms or the law has occurred. Where practical, we will notify you and give you a chance to respond, but we may act immediately in serious cases (e.g. illegal content, security threats).

You may close your account at any time from Settings → Account.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, RoleKey is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including loss of data, loss of in-game progress, interruption of service, or disputes between users or land owners.

Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising from or related to these Terms is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid for the service in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) EUR 50.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law (e.g. gross negligence, fraud, or rights granted to consumers by mandatory local law).

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. If the changes are material, we will notify registered users by email or by a prominent notice in the product at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of RoleKey after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Italy, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Disputes will be submitted to the competent court of the operator's place of business, except where mandatory consumer law gives you the right to bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence.
